WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT IN THIS CLASS?
This six-week virtual class is designed to give you invaluable INSIGHT and TOOLS to improve your scripts as you bring in new pages each week. But it’s not just about making your writing better — it’s about getting that draft finished.
If you do NOT want to finish a draft, then this is NOT the class for you.
Each week, we’ll focus on two core goals:
Getting the draft finished
Getting the draft finished GREAT
The foundation of our work will be reading your material aloud in class and giving constructive feedback to strengthen your pages. Alongside that, we’ll develop strategies to push your project across the finish line before the class ends.
Over the years, I’ve collected a toolbox of techniques to help me power through first drafts — and now, I want to share them with you. We’ll spend time clarifying your goals, getting specific about your unique challenges, and uncovering what’s really standing in the way of your progress.
Each week, we’ll check in on how it’s going, troubleshoot roadblocks, experiment with new methods, and give each other a little tough love when needed (affectionate sigh: ahhh).
All of this is designed to make sure you’re writing — and more importantly, that you’re writing to THE END.
WHAT DO FOLKS HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THIS CLASS?
“This class was really helpful for getting me to finish a draft of a project that I had been thinking about for a long time!!!
He nudges each project towards the best version of itself, with honest feedback that never devolves to the same-old same-old formulas peddled so many other places.
I take his class whenever I want to complete a project because it’s the perfect amount of structure for me to get work done.
I think it would take years of practice for writing to become a habit without clear deadlines. “

“Bixby’s class helped me finally finish a play I’d been struggling with for more than 7 years.
His no-excuses approach, combined with a healthy dose of support and “I’ve been there too” gave me the push I needed to reach the end.
If you have a project you’re avoiding, fighting, or stuck with, do yourself a favor and take the workshop—you’ll thank yourself later.”

“If you are somebody who needs accountability that is both supportive and firm in all of the best ways, take this class!
I am so grateful for having learned from Bixby and having been in community with other artists as I pushed toward the completion of a first draft of my play.
I needed someone to hold the candle to the fire in a supportive space and Bixby was that person. Anytime he opens another cohort, I’m there!”

As a runner, I found writing my first full length feature not too dissimilar from my first marathon.
The idea strikes, the task at hand is both intimidating and exciting. There is always a rush of adrenaline at the start, you know the general path ahead and your execution plan. You take off, so far so good, hit that halfway point and know the end is somewhere in the distance.
Then it's mile 16... the plan is starting to change and the last 10 miles seem impossible.
Like all great coaches, Bixby reminded us that sometimes you just have to focus on putting one foot in front of the other and that eventually, you will find yourself at the finish line so much more enlightened about the journey that just took place. And that the medal and rewards are deserved!
This class was instrumental in finding the motivation and structural guidelines to push ahead and I certainly would not have a completed draft in hand without it.
The best pack to race towards the end with- sign up!

A month before I decided to do this, I had no idea I’d be able to pump out a script in 7 weeks. It’s amazing what prioritizing one’s writing can do, and this group with Bixby was key for me keeping my commitments to myself.
The group dynamic was fantastic, just the right size to be able to share and get feedback each week.
I felt fully supported but also challenged week to week to make progress and get to “the end”- to actually finish the draft.
It’s easy to make excuses, and great to be reminded in a group like this to create anyway, write anyway, use your voice anyway.
Accomplishing this goal brings me joy. We all need more joy right now. Take this class and get some for yourself!
